For customers in certain states, Tock automatically collects and remits sales tax in accordance with required Marketplace Facilitator laws. The states Tock collects and remits sales tax for are as follows:
- Illinois (10/4/2021)
- Texas (11/1/2021)
- Washington (11/1/2021)
- Washington, D.C. (11/1/2021)
- Rhode Island (6/1/2022)
- Michigan (7/1/2022)
- Tennessee (7/1/2022)
- Wisconsin (8/1/2022)
- Oklahoma (8/1/2022)
- Minnesota (9/1/2022)
- Louisiana (9/1/2022)
Responsibility for setting, collecting, and remitting sales tax rests with Tock for all Tock prepaid reservations, events, and merchandise. Other taxes not remitted by Tock will be paid out as usual. Tock has automatically updated sales tax settings with categories and rates, accessible within Settings.
How to view your tax settings
- From the Control Panel tab, click Sales Tax.
- Within the Sales Tax tab, review the tax categories and tax rates assigned to experiences, items, and add-ons.
- Tax Category: the category defined for each experience, item, and add-on, such as general sales tax, food, or beverage. The category determines the associated tax rate.
- Tax Rate: the relevant rate associated with the selected category, based on the state's tax laws.
How to add new sales tax settings
Adding a tax category to a new menu item:
- From the Control Panel tab, click Menus and Items.
- Select Item Library, then click Add New Item.
- After filling out the new item details, review the Price and Tax Details section and select the tax category for the new menu item.
Adding a tax category to a new experience:
- From the Control Panel tab, click Experiences.
- Click Add experience.
- After filling out new item details, the Sales tax category section will appear, allowing for the selection of the tax category for the new experience.
Adding a tax category to a new event:
- From the Control Panel tab, click Events.
- Click Add event.
- After filling out the event details, review the Tickets section and select the tax category for the new event.
How to edit your sales tax settings
Editing a tax category on an existing menu item:
- From the Control Panel tab, click Menus and Items.
- Click Item Library, then select an existing menu item to edit.
- Scroll to the Pricing and tax details section and select the pencil icon.
- Click the tax category drop down, then select a new category to adjust the settings.
Editing a tax category on an existing experience:
- From the Control Panel tab, click Experiences.
- Select an existing experience to edit.
- In the menu on the left, click Pricing and Policy, then scroll to the Sales tax category section and edit the tax category.
Editing a tax category on an existing event:
- From the Control Panel tab, click Events.
- Select an existing event to edit.
- In the menu on the left, click Tickets , then scroll to the Sales tax category section and edit the tax category.
